Summary
Epu Trokin Kimün (“a meeting of two minds” in Mapudungun) is a game set containing six activity boards, flora and fauna flashcards, and 12 activity booklets with territorial relevance, available for children to create and conduct scientific research projects.
First of its kind in Chile, this game was created in 2019 as part of a project funded by the Siemens Foundation called “Programa Experimento,” and is designed for children from Pre-k through Grade 6, based on local knowledge mainly of Mapuche origin.
The game was created in response to the needs of educators working in rural areas who realized that there was a dearth of teacher training and support for scientific inquiry methods that are integrative, interdisciplinary and in line with their local context.
This solution was developed as an initiative to promote inclusive education and interculturality (two hallmarks of the UC Villarrica Campus), using the inquiry methodology for joining local and scientific knowledge, based on research conducted by the academic Martín Bascopé.
Potential Uses
Specially designed for use at schools with children in Pre-k through Grade 6.
